All employees shall obtain certification in adult CPR and standard First Aid (or the equivalent approved training) within forty-five (45) days of their hire date. Direct Care staff shall not be scheduled for a shift, or pick up a shift, unless they maintain current CPR/First Aid certification. CPR/First Aid certifications shall be in person courses; online certifications will not be accepted. Certifications shall be renewed every two years.

CPR/First Aid training is offered in the community and in house. Employees are responsible to maintain current certifications and provide a copy of the certification to Gateway. In house certifications are four hours in length.

Hourly employees who attend an in-house certification course shall be paid a sixty-eight (68) dollar training stipend. Hourly employees are not eligible for their hourly wage during CPR/First Aid training.

For CPR/First Aid training in the community, the Company does not pay an employee to attend training, but shall reimburse the cost of the training as follows:

• Initial CPR/First Aid class up to $50.00
• In Person CPR Recertification up to $20.00
• In Person First Aid class up to $20.00

Employees are responsible to fill out a reimbursement form and attach a copy of the training invoice. If a new employee receives reimbursement and does not continue employment for at least ninety (90) days, the reimbursed amount shall be deducted from their final check. Certifications that were received prior to employment shall not be reimbursed.

Below is a list of approved training locations / sites. Employees who would like to attend a training site that is not listed, will need prior approval from a manager or director.
